Seniors Housing Needs Assessment

SENIORS HOUSING NEEDS ASSESSMENT

IMPLEMENTING OUR AGE-FRIENDLY PLAN

Strategy 1 - Action Item #5: Cache Creek Seniors Housing Needs Assessment 2018

The Age-Friendly Plan:

In 2017 and early 2018, many of Cache Creek's older residents participated in a planning process to develop an Age-Friendly Plan for the Village.  The Plan, adopted by Council this March, includes goals and policies geared to creating a community that is more accessible and healthy for seniors as they age.  Implementation of the Plan will take place over the next 20 years.  To review the Age-Friendly Plan, click here.

The Seniors Housing Needs Assessment:

One of the main issues identified through the Age-Friendly planning process, by participating seniors, was a lack of appropriate and affordable housing to allow older adults to age in place in the community.  The Age-Friendly Plan identifies a Seniors Housing Needs Assessment as an immediate priority to understand the current housing situation for seniors in Cache Creek and to gather concrete, in-depth data that would support future grant acquisition for seniors housing feasibility studies and potential housing construction.

Funding and Previous Work:

Funding has been awarded from the Union of BC Municipalities to conduct the Seniors Housing Needs Assessment.  A 2009 study looked at seniors housing needs broadly in Cache Creek as applied to provincial trends in seniors housing.  This 2018 study takes a more in-depth, on the ground approach to assessing seniors housing needs in Cache Creek and aims to refresh housing and demographic data used in the 2009 study.

How to Participate:

We encourage Cache Creek older adults, aged 55+ to get involved in this study.  The more people we hear from, the more comprehensive the assessment and final report will be.  There are several ways to participate:

  • Complete the short Seniors Housing Needs Assessment Survey here.  The survey closes on July 30th at 4:00p.m.  Hard copy surveys are available for pick up at, and should be returned to one of the following locations:

  • The Village Office (1389 Quartz Road, Cache Creek)
  • The Equality Project (1260 Stage Road, Cache Creek)
  • Better at Home (711 Hill Street – in the Ashcroft HUB)
  • Elizabeth Fry Society (601 Bancroft Street, Ashcroft)

  • Visit the Village booth at the Farmers’ Market on July 21st to chat about seniors housing conditions in Cache Creek (former Esso site)
  • Contact us via phone or email directly to share your thoughts:

We will also be hosting a focus group session later this year with a select group of seniors that participated in the Age-Friendly Planning process.  This session will be geared to discussing seniors housing conditions in Cache Creek in-depth.  A second focus group session will be held with seniors’ service providers.  Stay tuned for more information.
