Choose a planter from the list available at the office to fill with items of your choice; beautiful flowers, yummy vegetables, or both! We are planning for planting to start around May Long Weekend.
The theme for this year is sunflowers. Our ask is that you have a minimum of one sunflower in your planter, that's it! After that, whatever you like. We want to see your creativity!
We will have our irrigation setup in each planter and top them up with some fresh soil before you get started. Then you can complete your planting! Make sure to take a photo when you are done.
With your photo of freshly planted beauty in hand, come to the office and fill out our form. If you complete this step, we will send you a gift card in the mail for one of the three retailers in the area (Horstings, Home Hardware, or Desert Hills)
As part of this program we are asking volunteers to prune, weed, and maintain their planters throughout the season. We are planning to install a nameplate with each volunteer or groups name on the planter so people know who is making the town a better place!
In August or September we are planning to do a judging and wrap up event for the planters where we will have a panel of out of town judges pick the best planters in each category!
Please fill out the form with all of the required information.
A big part of this is letting us know a few planters you are interested in. We are going to be allowcating them on a first come basis, so the sooner you express interest the better!
We will also be sending updates and information via email, so please use an email that you check regularly. Further updates will be posted below this signup form as well.
Last week we had the initial meeting of people interested in the Adopt a Planter program! We discussed the general plan for the program and many questions where asked.
Here are some of the ones that were more specific:
Q:When will the program run?
A:We are looking at having the program going from May Long Weekend until mid September. We are looking to have a limit of 1 planter per person or group. The last day to signup in order to have give people time to setup plants is April 30th, then we would reach out to the groups that have already signed up and see if they are willing to take on others to fill the town.
Q: Can I get the same one next year?
A: YES!! We encourage it! If you are volunteering on a planter this year and run it through the season you will be asked first if you want it again next year.
Q: What happens in the winter?
A: In the fall the volunteers would be asked to winterize the planters by removing the plants. Our Public Works team would winterize the water systems. Secondary to this, we are also considering a winter version of this project that can be discussed in future meetings.
