Official Community Plan & Zoning Bylaw Update

Shaping the Future of Cache Creek

The Village of Cache Creek is updating two essential documents that guide how our community grows and changes:

  • Official Community Plan (OCP), last adopted in 2013
  • Zoning Bylaw (ZBL), first adopted in 1990

These documents help shape the way land is used, influencing everything from the kind of housing available, to the look and feel of our downtown, the location of commercial/industrial development, and the protection of natural areas.

This page will be updated throughout the project, stay tuned or join our email list at the bottom of this page.

What’s an OCP?

An Official Community Plan is a guiding document that sets the long-term vision for the community. It covers:

  • Housing, transportation, and infrastructure
  • Parks, trails, and environmental protection
  • Community facilities and local services
  • Economic growth and job creation
  • Climate adaptation and environmental resilience

What’s a Zoning Bylaw?

The Zoning Bylaw is a tool that brings the OCP to life. It regulates how land can be used and developed by setting clear rules for:

  • What types of buildings are allowed
  • Where homes, businesses, and parks can be located
  • Standards for building height, lot size, setbacks, and land use

Together, the OCP and ZBL shape the way Cache Creek grows – defining the character, function and feel of our community.

Why This Project Matters

Cache Creek’s Official Community Plan (2013) and Zoning Bylaw (1990) are due for a major update. Our community has changed—and so have the rules. New provincial legislation now requires every local government to include a housing needs statement informed by the recently updated Housing Needs Report for Cache Creek. This includes the expected housing needs in 5-year and 20-year increments. This update is more than a legal requirement. It’s a chance to:

  • Plan for housing, infrastructure, and services that reflect today’s needs
  • Prepare for future growth and change
  • Reaffirm our community’s identity, values, and long-term goals

A Community Conversation

We’re inviting everyone -- residents, business owners, community groups, and more – to help shape a bold, inclusive vision for Cache Creek. This project is about asking big questions, sharing ideas, and help build a plan that reflects who we are and where we want to go. Let’s work together to make a plan that:

  • Honours our past and reflects who we are today
  • Responds to current challenges and future opportunities
  • Builds a resilient, welcoming, and thriving Cache Creek for generations to come
